Tea with Freud
You are invited to join local psychiatrist and author Steven Sandler on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., when he will discuss modern Freudian psychotherapy and how it has evolved over time, as presented in his latest book, “Tea with Freud: An Imaginary Conversation about how Psychotherapy Really Works.” For his novel, he researched Freud’s letters and used what he learned to frame the imaginary conversation held with Sigmund Freud. He has also drawn on actual cases from his psychiatry practice at Albany Medical Center. The program is for adults who are interested in understanding emotions, emotional problems, and how therapy can help. Please register.
Make a pumpkin
Join us on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. as we showcase our creative skills to decorate pumpkins for Halloween and the fall season. Pumpkins and decorating supplies will be provided. We will end the program by watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and snacking on pumpkin bread and cider. Decorated pumpkins will be displayed in the library Oct. 17 through 23 for the entire community to enjoy. Pumpkins may be picked up beginning Oct. 24. Create a new land from your imagination and LEGO bricks at the library on Monday, Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Parents and caregivers will join their kids in kindergarten through grade 2 in this creative journey meant to foster problem-solving skills and encourage storytelling. Please register.

Students in grades three through seven will create something creepy with our LEGO bricks, and try to survive the Creepers during your turn on Minecraft. The program starts at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10. Please register.
Food pantry
People often donate to the food pantry during the holidays, but may not realize there are neighbors in need year round. The library is a convenient drop spot for the New Scotland food pantry, which helps provide food, paper products and basic personal care items to those in need within New Scotland, including the Voorheesville school district.

Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is your chance to exchange your child's outgrown clothes for something he or she can wear. If you just want to donate clothes, as opposed to swapping them, we will be accepting donations Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 14 and 15, during regular library hours.

This will be a very relaxed, informative program, with Dennis leading the conversation. There will be ample time for audience participation and discussion. Coffee and dessert will be served. Run and walk
The Village Animal Clinic, located across the road from the library, will be holding their 5K run and walk at 10:00 am on Sunday, Sept. 18. Dogs are welcome and encouraged to participate in the run. All dogs must be leashed at all times and be sociable with other dogs and people. Please do not use retractable leashes. You can register online at www.zippyreg.com. You can also register in person at the Animal Clinic. All proceeds of the 5K run/walk will be donated to Guilderhaven, Inc., a nonprofit that helps the animal community. Please join in after the race for an awards ceremony, refreshments, food, music, entertainment, and of course, the Friends of the Library $2 a bag book sale.

Make your own racing flag
Students in grades one through five will create a customized flag depicting images related to fitness and health, then attach it to a dowel, ready to wave at a finish line. Everyone has a story to tell come write yours down. Ms. Serfilippi, a graduate student at the College of St. Rose, will teach some new terms, tricks, and tips about fiction writing. Essential oils
What is all this talk about essential oils? This workshop on Tuesday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m., will provide you with a hands on experience that will allow you to leave with an understanding of what an essential oil is and what it can do to improve your lifestyle. Throughout this hour, you will be able to enjoy the aromas of various oils, apply oils topically,and even taste the oils if you would like. Join the bicycle parade on Saturday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at the village park. Participate in a bike skills rodeo and enjoy the new rail trail and pavilion. Activities for all ages will take place throughout downtown Voorheesville. Join friends and neighbors as we bicycle a closed, supervised route.
Bicycle skills rodeo
This bicycle skills educational program will allow young bicyclists the opportunity to practice and develop skills that will help them to become more informed and better bicyclists and to avoid typical crashes.
Our team of bicycling experts will lead participants through some practical exercises such as a safety bike and helmet check, scanning, avoiding road obstacles, and starts and stops.

Let’s hear it for the power of peas. On Monday, July 18, students in kindergarten through grade three will hear some stories about these green guys, play pod games, and even make some art with dried peas.
Chinese cooking
Students in grades six and up will learn how to prepare a delicious Chinese brown rice stir-fry from fresh, healthy ingredients. Join host speakers from the Honest Weight Food Co-op on Tuesday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m., as they share shopping, preparation, and cooking skills. Please register as space is limited for this program.
Creativity lab
On Wednesday, July 20 at 2 p.m., students in grades four through six can learn the basics of designing in three dimensions using Tinkercad. Create a keychain or nameplate that will be printed on the library’s Cubify 3D printer. Equipment is limited, so please register early.
Adult coloring book
Join us on Wednesday, July 20 at 6 p.m., for our adult coloring book club. We will provide different coloring sheets with multiple pages to choose from as well as a large selection of colored pencils, markers, and crayons. The library community room will provide a welcoming environment with soothing music to help you relax and enjoy some you time. Supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
