Students in grades six and up are invited to learn to use the Leap Motion, the 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops on Friday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. Tackle a building challenge in Minecraft, or program our new Ozobots. Fabric and craft supplies will also be on hand if you want to use the sewing machines or create something handmade. Please register, space is limited.

Polymer clay minis

On Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. participants in grades six and up will learn to shape a cute, realistic cupcake charm from polymer clay. Please register.

Healthy habits show with Professor Klutzo

Children in kindergarten through grade four can join in on Monday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m., as the fumbling, bumbling professor discusses healthy habits along with his hilarious puppet sidekicks, Percy the Penguin and Freddie the Frog. The show includes magic, juggling, interactive music and lots of audience participation.

Make your own racing flag

Students in grades one through five will create a customized flag depicting images related to fitness and health, then attach it to a dowel, ready to wave at a finish line. Ginger Ertz, museum educator from the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College will guide students through the design process on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. Please register online or call the library to sign up.

Minute challenges

Students in grades three through five will compete against the clock in ridiculous minute-long challenges coached by our teen team leaders. On Thursday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m., you can cheer your teammates along as you go for the Gold! Please register online.

60-second challenges

Students in kindergarten through grade three need to register early for this fun and challenging program. Our teen team leaders will coach you through a set of silly 60-second long challenges. It’s just you versus the clock. Find out if you will beat the clock or the clock will beat you on Monday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m.

Back to school lunches

On Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. you are invited to join us for some great ideas to make over that boring bagged lunch. Rachel, a dietician from our local Shoprite, will be talking about healthy meals and snacks for school and work.

Library summer hours

I just wanted to make sure you all know we have changed our hours this summer. Our hours for July and August are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9:30 a.m. to  6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are closed on Sundays.

Book sale

The Friends of the Library annual book sale is right around the corner. The dates to save are Sept. 16, 17, and 18. There is going to be a lot of action that weekend, so stay tuned for details.
