Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, July 29, 2016

On Saturday, July 30 at 10 a.m., world-class athlete, Judoka Nick Kossor, will provide participants in grades four through eight with an introductory lesson to the sport of Judo, so dress for action. He has won numerous championships and been ranked among the top 30 judoka in his weight class world-wide. He has 13 years of experience teaching judo to people of all ages and abilities. Space is limited, so please register early.

LEGO Jr. maker event

Come in on Monday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m., to make, tinker, build, and explore at the library. Parents and caregivers will join their kindergarten through grade three children in this creative journey meant to encourage problem-solving and foster storytelling.

Nimblefingers Jr.

Mom is always telling you to make new friends, so why not sew your own? Come in on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 3 p.m. and choose from a variety of materials to create a new buddy. We’ll teach you easy sewing skills to transform fabric to friend. This program is for students in grades four and up, please register.

Tween writing workshop

Everyone has a story to tell come write yours down. Ms. Serfilippi, a graduate student at the College of St. Rose, will teach some new terms, tricks, and tips about fiction writing. Students in grades four through eight will receive a new notebook to write their own short stories, illustrate them, and share them. All skill levels are welcome.

This is a two-part program; the firstwill be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, continuing on with Part II, on Thursday, Aug. 4. Both parts begin at 6:30 p.m. Please register.

Teen tech time and maker studio

Students in grades six and up are invited on Friday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. to learn to use the Leap Motion, the 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Tackle a building challenge in Minecraft, or program our new Ozobots. Fabric and craft supplies will also be on hand if you want to use the sewing machines or create something handmade. Please register, space is limited.

Polymer clay minis

On Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. participants in grades six and up will learn to shape a cute, realistic cupcake charm from polymer clay. While your creations bake, Miss Sternklar will share some sources for more polymer clay inspiration. Please register.

Healthy habits show with Professor Klutzo

Children in kindergarten through grade four  can join in on Monday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m., as the fumbling, bumbling professor discusses healthy habits along with his hilarious puppet sidekicks, Percy the Penguin and Freddie the Frog. The show includes magic, juggling, interactive music and lots of audience participation.

ENCORE! used book store will be open every Tuesday through Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Library summer hours

I just wanted to make sure you all know we have changed our hours this summer. Our hours for July and August are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9:30 a.m. to  6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are closed on Sundays.
