Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, July 15, 2016
George Steele will be at the Voorheesville Public Library on Thursday, July 14, at 7 p.m. to teach about animal tracks. This program is for students in grades three and up.
Bring a T-shirt and decorate it with tracks from your favorite mammal. Registration is required for this program.
Story time
Start Family Bicycling Day, Saturday, July 16, off right with a "Bikes and Trikes" storytime at the library at 10:15 a.m. Storytime will finish with plenty of time to make your way to the Village Park for the opening ceremony for Family Bicycling Day.
Voorheesville Family Bicycling Day
Join the bicycle parade on Saturday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at the village park. Participate in a bike skills rodeo and enjoy the new rail trail and pavilion. Activities for all ages will take place throughout downtown Voorheesville. Join friends and neighbors as we bicycle a closed, supervised route.
Bicycle skills rodeo
This bicycle skills educational program will allow young bicyclists the opportunity to practice and develop skills that will help them to become more informed and better bicyclists and to avoid typical crashes.
Our team of bicycling experts will lead participants through some practical exercises such as a safety bike and helmet check, scanning, avoiding road obstacles, and starts and stops.
Space is limited. Please register on the library event calendar. Please wear proper bicycling attire (helmet, close-toed shoes). This program is for children in kindergarten through grade three, from 11 a.m. to noon; for grade four and up from 1 to 2 p.m. Skills rodeo will be held at the Rail Trail pavilion on Saturday, July 16.
Pea pod pandemonium
Let’s hear it for the power of peas. On Monday, July 18, students in kindergarten through grade three will hear some stories about these green guys, play pod games, and even make some art with dried peas.
Chinese cooking
Students in grades six and up will learn how to prepare a delicious Chinese brown rice stir-fry from fresh, healthy ingredients. Join host speakers from the Honest Weight Food Co-op on Tuesday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m., as they share shopping, preparation, and cooking skills. Please register as space is limited for this program.
Creativity lab
On Wednesday, July 20 at 2 p.m., students in grades four through six can learn the basics of designing in three dimensions using Tinkercad. Create a keychain or nameplate that will be printed on the library’s Cubify 3D printer. Equipment is limited, so please register early.
Adult coloring book
Join us on Wednesday, July 20 at 6 p.m., for our adult coloring book club. We will provide different coloring sheets with multiple pages to choose from as well as a large selection of colored pencils, markers, and crayons. The library community room will provide a welcoming environment with soothing music to help you relax and enjoy some you time. Supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
ENCORE! hours
The ENCORE! used book store will be open every Tuesday through Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. 7:30 p.m.
