On Wednesday, July 6, join us for a matinee starting at 2 p.m. In a world where dinosaurs and humans live side-by-side, an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. This film is rated PG, and runs for 93 minutes. Don’t forget popcorn will be served.

Bricks and blocks

Builders in grades four and up are invited to join us on Thursday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m.  to “Get Building!”  With our LEGO bricks and Minecraft blocks on the laptops, you can create anything that you can imagine. Use LEGO Movie Maker on the iPads to make your own stop-motion movie. Please register online to reserve your spot.

Teen tech time and Makerspace

Middle and high schoolers in grades six and up can use their imagination on Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. to make something high-tech or low-tech. Use the Leap Motion, the 3D scanner, or 3D printer with our laptops. Tackle a building challenge in Minecraft, or program our new Ozobots. Fabric and craft supplies will also be on hand if you want to use the sewing machines or create something handmade. Please register, space is limited.

Visit Graystone Stables

Children in kindergarten through grade three will meet Mrs. Brown at the stables on Monday, July 11, at 2 p.m., for an introduction to the wonderful world of horses and the sport of horseback riding. Directions to the stable will be provided to all online registrants.

Garden discussion

Our gardens should be thriving this time of year. Come to a discussion on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m., to brainstorm solutions for challenges you are having in your garden, share your successes, and start and return, quote, or trade borrowed seeds. We will briefly review how to save seeds for those who are interested in contributing to the library. Bring in samples of vegetables or flowers you are growing, whether from the seed library collection or others. Identify seeds in our library collection for succession planting for the rest of the summer and into the fall. Local gardeners and Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will facilitate the discussion and help answer questions. Beginner to advanced gardeners are welcome. Please register. Toddler Yoga

Experience the benefits of yoga together in this nurturing class taught by local instructor, Janine Murphy. Yoga supports physical and emotional well-being and promotes fun and bonding. Bring a mat or a towel. This is a four session program, every Tuesday at 10:15 a.m., beginning June 29 and running through July 20. It is understood that things come up at the last minute, but you must commit to the four sessions since the next class builds upon the previous. Ages 2 to 5 with parent or caregiver, please register online.

Teen project

Teen power is needed to sew telemetry bags for the Cardiac Care Unit at Albany Medical Center. Join us on Wednesday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m. and you’ll be cutting and pinning material, then using the sewing machines to make simple pouches with straps. Participants will earn two hours of community service.  Students entering grades seven and up, please register.

Encore! Update

There was a crowd waiting as Encore!, the Friends of the Library used book store, opened its doors last week. Business is booming and the friends could not be happier. Teen volunteers

Students entering grade seven and up are invited to join us on Friday, June 17, at 4:30 p.m. for this mandatory teen-volunteer orientation. Summer volunteer jobs include helping prepare crafts, working with younger children during programs, and some computer tasks. Fill out a volunteer form (a link can be found through our online calendar) prior to this mandatory volunteer orientation. Certified Medicare counselor, Janet Kiffney, will answer common questions such as: What is Medicare Part A and Part B? What about prescription coverage? What is the doughnut hole? What is Medigap insurance, and how does it help? Should you think about joining an Advantage Plan? This is a two-part program; Part one is Wednesday, June 8, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and part two is Wednesday, June 15, 10 to 11:30 am. So much information that we couldn’t fit it into one session, so please plan to attend both. Registration is requested.

Story time

The Friends of the Library are always looking for new members to help sort books, and staff the used book store Encore! for a few hours or fill a board position, such as: membership, fundraising, or volunteer coordinating. Our May artist of the month is Jerry Andritz. Jerry has traveled all over the world and his photographs are captivating.

Our display case this month is filled to the brim with sea shells, shared by collectors Judy Mysliborski and Paula Maniscalco. Both exhibits are not to be missed.

The first will begin at 10 a.m. and the second will begin at 6:30 p.m. Both two-hour workshops will end with a 30-minute question-and-answer session.  Linda Zell has 30 years of spreadsheet experience.  Space is extremely limited, so please register early.
