Summer reading program finale

Back by popular demand, The Jester Jim Show returns at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23. This award-winning entertainer brings his fast-paced juggling show filled with laugh-out-loud antics as our thanks for all of your reading efforts this summer. Summer reading program prize winners will be announced, and prizes will be given to all of this summer’s participants. All ages are welcome.

Book sale

Please join us as we kick off the fall season with the Friends of the Library’s fall book sale, Sept. 16 to 18 from 2 to 8 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 16, the sale will open for Friends of the Library only. Memberships will be available for as little as $10 at the door. Doors open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m.

The kids clothing swap will be held in the community room and a bake sale will be under one of the tents. Nimblefingers crafting group will be available all three days for crafting advice as well as selling homemade items.

On Sunday, Sept. 18 a bag sale begins at 9 a.m. (FOL will provide the bags). Registration for the Village Animal Clinic Canine 5K Classic will begin at 9 a.m., with the run/walk starting at 10 a.m.

Music will be provided throughout Saturday and Sunday by local band In Orbit, and Jackie the Magician will be entertaining the crowds on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The FOL will also be selling raffle tickets for various items and baskets on display at the book sale. The drawing will be held at noon on Sunday.

Annual kids clothing swap

On Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. you will have the chance to exchange your child's outgrown clothes for something he or she can wear. This is a great opportunity to declutter, upgrade, and be green. Bring your clean, gently used children's clothes and shoes to the library for our community kids clothing swap. If you just want to donate clothes, as opposed to swapping them, we will be accepting donations Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 14 and 15, during regular library hours.

Guest speaker

The library welcomes Dennis Sullivan on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., for a historical presentation of the life and work of Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk considered by many as the most important spiritual writer of the 20th Century. His paper, The Courage “To Be That Self One Truly Is”: Thomas Merton’s Unrelenting Journey To Recover Paradise On Earth, will be available at the library for prior reading to facilitate discussion.
