Weekly Babygarten (for newborns to 18 months) and Toddler Town (for 18 months to preschool) programs will resume Thursday, Sept. 8 at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., respectively. Whichever time you choose, stories, music, and playtime will be part of the program.
Story time
Come explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math through the wonderful world of animals. At 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, we will have fun reading some animal-themed books during story time, then explore STEAM stations including: building a bridge for 21 elephants, mixed-up animal art, penguin science, and LEGO animal measuring. This program is for children ages 2 to 5 with a caregiver, please register.
Excel basics
Instructor Linda Zell will hold two classes for Excel beginners, both on Monday, Sept. 12. The morning class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, and the evening class will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Space is extremely limited, so please register early. Linda will cover the basics of Microsoft Excel. The workshops will end with a 30-minute question-and-answer session.
Fall book sale
The Friends of the Library fall book sale will be held on Sept. 16 to 18. The members-only FOL sneak preview will begin at 2 p.m., Friday Sep. 16. Memberships are available at the door for as little as $10. Sale doors open to the public at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17. The kids clothing swap will be held in the community room and a bake sale will be under one of the tents. Nimblefingers crafting group will be available all three days for crafting advice as well as selling homemade items.
On Sunday, Sept. 18 the $2 a bag sale begins at 9 a.m. FOL will provide the bags. Registration for the Village Animal Clinic Canine 5K Classic will begin at 9 a.m., with the run/walk starting at 10 a.m. Music will be provided throughout Saturday and Sunday by local band In Orbit, and Jackie the Magician will be entertaining the crowds on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The FOL will also be selling raffle tickets for various items and baskets on display at the book sale. The drawing will be held at noon on Sunday. As always, volunteers are welcome and appreciated
Book discussion
The library welcomes Dennis Sullivan on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., for a historical presentation of the life and work of Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk considered by many as the most important spiritual writer of the 20th Century. Dennis’ paper, “The Courage ‘To Be That Self One Truly Is’: Thomas Merton’s Unrelenting Journey To Recover Paradise On Earth,” will be available at the library for prior reading to facilitate discussion. Please register.
Holiday schedule
In observance of Labor Day, the library will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 5. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
