Last Thursday, the Guilderland Dutchmen girls' basketball opened up in the quarterfinals in the class AA sectional playoffs at Shenendehowa High School against Colonie. The Dutch fell 59-to-53.
Their cheers were loud during Saturday’s competition at Colonie High. The Dutch had won its fourth straight Section 2 title. The champions had a score of 86.05 out of 100 points. The team is coached by Jessalynn Crusado.
The next step for each of the athletes on the Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo indoor track teams is to compete in this Sunday’s state qualifiers for a chance to head to the state competition on March 2 on Long Island.
The Guilderland-Voorheesville boys’ swim team, in the Section 2 championships at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park on Friday and Saturday, looked to lock down more qualifications for the March 1 and 2 state competition.
Nine Guilderland and one Berne-Knox-Westerlo wrestlers were among the best in Section 2, hoping to win on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center so they could go on to state competition. None succeeded. Guilderland finished 22nd with 67 points and BKW didn’t score.

The Guilderland Dutchmen wrestlers took to the mat on Saturday at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park for the Section 2, Division 1, Class A championships. The Dutch finished sixth with 124.5 points.
Three-time defending Section 2 champions, the Guilderland co-ed cheer team took to the mat in the annual UAlbany Cheer Showdown on Sunday afternoon. The Dutch cheered the day before in Saratoga where they finished second.
The Guilderland girls’ basketball team won a Suburban Council matchup against Ballston Spa at home on Friday evening. The Dutch’s full-court pressure kept the Scotties off kilter all game long, giving Guilderland the victory, 69 to 48.
On Jan 12, Farnsworth Middle School and the Voorheesville Public Library competed in the annual Future City competition at the Armory at the Sage Colleges in Albany.
