Photos: Dutch Race to States

The Dutch will send seven athletes to Staten Island for state track-and-field competition on March 7. Those seven Guilderland students reached the standard time or distance last Sunday at the University at Albany competition.

Clean hand-off as Guilderland's Kate Scanlan, in back, gives the baton to teammate Jane Leader in the girls’ 4x400-meter relay semifinals. The relay team won the semifinals with a time of 4:17.53, then won by four seconds in the final with a time of 4:13.84.

Easy clear: Guilderland's Meaghan Hickey coming off her Section II, Division 1 championship in the girls’ 55-meter hurdles attempted to qualify for states in the same event but finished third in the finals with a time of 9.27.

Leading early: Guilderland's Sean O’Brien takes the turn in the top spot in the boys’ 3200-meter run. O’Brien finished third with a time of 9:47.53 and qualifies for states.

Running along: Guilderland's Will Cusato runs in the front pack in the third heat of the boys’ 1000-meter run. Cusato finished third with a time of 2:39.84 and qualified for the Intersectional relay — comprised of the 300-, 600-, 1000-, and 1500/1600-meter runs.

Best foot forward: Guilderland’s Lauren Reilly takes her first jump in the Section II state qualifier in the triple jump. Reilly finished in 28th with a distance of 28 feet, 5.50 inches.

Round and round: Guilderland’s Cadence Brewer spins quickly as she releases her weight throw into the field. Brewer finished ninth with a distance of 34 feet, 2 inches.

Leaping trio: Guilderland’s Kate Scanlan, left, Meaghan Hickey, center, and Anna Pacholczak all compete in the third heat of the semifinals for the girls’ 55-meter hurdle. Scanlan finished 10th overall in 9.51, Hickey finished fourth in 9.28 and advanced to the finals where she finished third with a time of 9.27, and Pacholczak finished 19th with a time of 10.26.
