The Guilderland Flying Dutchmen cross-country teams, both male and female, lived up to their name, using speed and endurance in the 48th annual Guilderland Invitational at Tawasentha Park on Saturday morning. Flying, indeed.

Getting off to a quick start in an eight-game season for Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Helderberg Valley is critical for a good position in sectionals. The season started on Friday night for the Dutch and on Saturday for Helderberg Valley and the Blackbirds.

Only two matches into its season, the Guilderland girls’ volleyball team traveled to Saratoga High School to take on the Blue Streaks, another Suburban Council team.

The Guilderland varsity girls’ tennis team got off on the right foot Wednesday morning at the Central Park tennis courts in Schenectady as the Dutch beat Niskayuna, 6 to 3.

This week, varsity golfers from Guilderland and Voorheesville started the fall sports season, hoping to drive their way to sectional titles that culminate this coming spring when the winners travel to state competition.

The Guilderland Letterman Golf Classic was held last Friday at Orchard Creek Golf Course for their annual fundraiser.

Leadership is important for any varsity sports team at Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, or Voorheesville. These seniors led the way throughout the year.

Varsity teams from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo showed the state and Section 2 competition their mettle when the temperatures went up this spring — that is, once the snow melted.

Guilderland’s Isabella Bruno and Noah Tindale competed against top athletes from across New York for the State Championship held at Cicero-North Syracuse in Cicero on Friday. The Federation competition followed on Saturday with Bruno winning the championship for the triple jump.

Intensity ramps up during sectional play. The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs and Guilderland Dutchmen measured up in their first sectional games this week.
