Track athletes from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo battled in their sectional championships — Division 1 for Guilderland and Division 4 for Voorheesville and BKW — at the University at Albany on Sunday. The Guilderland boys finished fourth with 55.5 points and the girls were fifth with 42. The Voorheesville boys finished sixth with 22 points and the girls were 10th with 14 points. The BKW boys didn’t score any points while the girls finished 12th with eight points.

Two Guilderland athletes were champions. Maegan Hickey won the 55-meter hurdle event for Division 1 with a time of 9.06. Sean O’Brien led the field of 15 runners in the sectional 3200-meter championship, wire to wire. O’Brien’s time was 9:46.09.

Going up high: Guilderland's Madalyn Alteri competes in the Division 1 high jump sectional championship where she cleared the bar at 7 feet even and finished fifth with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.

Spinaroonie: Guilderland's Cadence Brewer spins around in the Division 1 weight throw sectional championship, finishing fourth with a distance of 37 feet, 1.25 inches.

Voorheesville’s Sophia Stampalia competes in the semifinals of the Division 4 sectional 55-meter hurdle event; she finished seventh in the semifinals with a time of 11.26 then finished seventh in the finals with a time of 11.23.

BKW Bulldog Sean Motschmann gets ready to land in the sandy pit for the Division 4 triple jump. Motschmann finished 12th with a distance of 30 feet, 0.25 inches and also competed in the long jump where he finished in 11th with a distance of 15 feet, 0.75 inches.

Bulldog Michelle Puzulis competes in the 1000-meter championship for Division 4 as she runs in front of Granville’s Amber Gibbs in the opening laps. Puzulis finished third with a time of 3:23.70.

Low and quick: Guilderland’s Robert Zieba flies over the hurdle in the Division 1 sectional 55-meter semifinal. Zieba finished second in the semifinal with a time of 8.37; then, in the finals, he finished fourth with a time of 8.36.

And she’s off: Guilderland’s Kate Scanlan sprints from the start of the girls’ 300-meter Division 1 sectional championships. Scanlan finished 21st with a time of 47.77.

Leading early: Guilderland’s Will Cusato takes the helm midway in the Division 1 sectional championship for the 1600-meter run. Cusato finished second with a time of 4:37.86.

Ready, set, release! Voorheesville’s Sean Foley gets ready to push away his shot in the Section 4 sectional shot put championships. Foley finished ninth with a distance of 31 feet, 7 inches.

Tippy-toe: Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Katelyn Burtt follows Fonda-Fultonville’s Adriana Butler in the second heat of the girls’ 600-meter championship for Division 4. Burtt finished ninth overall with a time of 2:03.55.
