Photos: Dutch Among New York's Best

Seven Guilderland athletes held their own on Saturday as they competed with the best track-and-field athletes across New York State in the state championships at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island.

Battling hard: Guilderland's Will Cusato led midway through the 1000-meter portion of the intersectional distance medley relay — a combination of 1000, 300, 600, and 1600 meters — for the Section 2 team. Cusato’s time in the 1000-meter portion was 2:40.08 and the Section 2 team finished third in the state with a time of 8:57.04.

At the last second: Guilderland's Sean O’Brien competing in the boys’ 3200-meter run, is passed at the finish line by Section 8’s Jason Linzer of Seaford, at right. O’Brien finished fourth with a time of 9:18.22.

Flying like an eagle: Guilderland's Makiya Donnell easily flies over the high-jump bar at 4 feet, 10 inches, competing against 31 other top jumpers. Donnelly finished in 18th at a height of 5 feet even.

The 4x400-meter relay team competed against 18 other top teams. Kate Scanlan rockets off the starting line as Guilderland’s first runner. Scanlan ran 1:01.81.

Handoff: Teammate Laila Jerome hands off the baton to the anchor runner Tyler Howard. The relay team finished 13th with a time of 4:06.94 and broke the school record by three seconds.
