The Westerlo Public Library is closed as of March 16 until further notice due to the COVID-19. This decision was made in cooperation with the town supervisor’s declaration of a state of emergency for the town of Westerlo. (See related story.)
In order to best serve our community and staff during this time of heightened awareness of health concerns, it was the decision that had to be made.
So how can we serve you:
— Our free wifi will continue to be open 24/7 and available in our parking lot;
— Your library card offers you free ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines when you visit our website westerlolibrary.org along the left column click on download audio and ebooks or go directly at uhls.overdrive.com;
— Go to our Facebook page for updates of more sites for story-time ideas, activities to do, and school-related support.
Answers to Some of your questions:
— At this time, the interlibrary loan system is not available, until further notice;
— All library cards that were about to expire have been extended until July 1;
— All library cards that have expired in the past two years will be reinstated in expectation of increased desire to use during this time;
— You may return Westerlo Public Library materials to our book drop during the closure. Since there is no method of returning materials to other libraries at this time, we are asking you not to return other libraries’ materials to our library for now. This may change;
— There will be no overdue fines during the time that we are closed. You can also keep the materials for the extended time.

We care about your health
The Westerlo Public Library serves hundreds of people each month. In order to best serve our community and staff during this time of heightened awareness of health concerns, we have implemented some new guidelines.
Currently most of these guidelines relate to cleaning and disinfecting to help prevent the spread of germs. Please remember we offer homebound service and we will be adding curbside service. Curbside service entails you calling us when you arrive and we will bring your “hold” items out to you and take your return items from you.
Again, please check our website for accurate information about Coronavirus and our guidelines.

Robert’s work includes a wide range of images, from “Swineherd,” a digitized 35-millimeter slide, an homage to his dad’s slaughterhouse days to “Keys to the Kingdom,” a scanner image, a contrast of his keys to a house (ca. 1790) and his car keys.
Amelia’s work includes “Tracking Time,” a 35-millimeter photograph taken during a Dutch Barn Society event and “The Sun Porch,” a digital photograph that has won many awards.

The Westerlo Library wants to encourage you to try something new at the library. Read a book by an author you’ve never read before, read a book with the word “snow” in the title, read a nonfiction book or read a book that has a blue cover.
These are just a few of the 25 suggestions on our Cozy Up at the Westerlo Library this Winter “Bingo” sheet. Throughout the next few months, we will have activities including special book discussions and new materials geared toward caretakers for loved ones who have dementia and Alzheimer.
All of these activities have been made possible by a grant from the Upper Hudson Library System Adult and Outreach Services Department. Please watch here for updates.
