Many Guilderland Players have gone on to successful careers involving the arts.  These are a few of them from across the years.

Concern for material success was not a dominant theme of the speeches at Guilderland’s commencement ceremony on June 24, 2017. Instead, speakers advised graduates to speak the truth, learn to listen, and empathize with others.

Forty-seven percent of Guilderland high-school students now have averages of 90 or above. Saying that the system of ranking students harms those who have high grades but not necessarily a high rank, students have called for ranking to be eliminated altogether, and the board of education is listening.

Shirley Herchenroder, who still lives in Guilderland Center, is one of the last living former students of the Cobblestone Schoolhouse.

School officials are calling foul on campaign tactics for the district’s newest elected board member, Timothy Horan — but the results of the vote will likely still stand, according to the district’s attorney, Jeffrey Honeywell.

GUILDERLAND — Timothy Horan, a 30-year career teacher set to retire at the end of the school year, won over 25 percent of the vote, making him the clear frontrunner in a five-way race for three school board seats.

“Real good night,” said Horan after the tally was announced Tuesday night.

A week before the Guilderland school board election, one candidate faces a lawsuit.
