Guilderland grad picked for honors rowing team

GUILDERLAND — Nicole Van Oort, who graduated from Guilderland High School in 2014, has won athletic and academic honors at George Mason University.

Van Oort is the first rower from the university to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, which is made up of selected students who meet a high academic threshold and play a key role on their sports teams.

She is one of 80 student athletes on the ballot for selection as an All-America Athlete.

Van Oort has maintained a 4.0 grade point average with a major in mathematics and a minor in kinesiology and she holds the stroke position on George Mason’s rowing team, which finished second at the Occoquan Sprints and finished in the top-20 at the Head of the Charles.
