Guilderland High School recently put up a sign marking its first-ever all-gender bathroom. There will be a total of four in the high school and one in the middle school.
“There is clearly a copycat effect,” says a report on bomb threats by the Educator’s School Safety Network. Over the years at Guilderland, school leaders have had different responses to the threats.
Lead-testing results are in for Farnsworth Middle School, and there are 95 water outlets that must be remediated in some way, even simply by labeling them “for hand-washing only.” However, 7 of the 95 actionable sites are outlets that were used for drinking or cooking.
A total of 98 sinks or water fountains in the Guilderland school district’s five elementary schools have been found to contain lead levels higher than the allowable amount. The highest number of unsafe outlets was found at the newest school.

Alicia Rizzo, principal of Lynnwood Elementary School, will be absent for a month for a medical procedure, from Sept. 22 through Oct. 24, she wrote in a Sept. 15 letter to parents.
