WESTERLO — Veterans will now be able to access Albany County services once a week at the Westerlo Reformed Church.

EAST BERNE — James and Ruth Geier Roemer, a devoted couple, married for 75 years, both died last January. On May 18, their lives will be celebrated together.

KNOX — Javid Afzali has joined Bond Schoeneck & King as a senior counsel in the Albany office.

EAST BERNE — On  Friday, May 10, the Thompsons Lake Rural Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. at the Thompsons Lake Reformed Church in East Berne. In addition to the annual budget review, the 2018 season will be recapped.

BERNE — Jane Snyder, a licensed practical nurse who has been serving the Berne-Knox-Westerlo area for 45 years, is retiring.

“Jane has been a trusted, respected, and loved member of our practice and for the entire community, so we want to celebrate her,” said Dr. Kristin Mack in an email to The Enterprise.

BERNE — The Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District are hosting an April 29 open house at the school’s high tunnel for school administrators and educators.

“Take it From the Top,” written and directed by Penny Shaw and the show’s dates are Nov. 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School Auditorium.

On Wednesday morning, high school and elementary students hopped off the big yellow buses to start a new school year at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. New to the school this year is a resource officer that will be on hand at both schools.

Marcy Forti is Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Class of 2018 valedictorian. With two siblings who had gone before her as valedictorian, she stood out by helping to found two clubs at BKW and by pursuing a career in biochemistry in order to help people and animals.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo salutatorian Cailyn Toomey is looking ahead to a career in teaching students in need, whether in the Albany area or overseas.
