Lyric soprano sings today to give back to the Hilltowns

Amanda (née Hellwig) Vallejos

HILLTOWNS — Amanda (née Hellwig) Vallejos, lyric soprano and Berne-Knox-Westerlo alumna, will perform at the Octagon Barn in Knox today, Aug. 1.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. and the barn, recently air-conditioned, is located at 588 Middle Road. A dessert bar will follow the performance. The concert will include selections by Barber, Davenport, Schumann, Fauré, Quilter, and Puccini.

Free will donations will support the Helderberg Family and Community Organization’s offerings of opportunities for area kids and families.

Vallejos graduated from BKW in 1999 and now lives in Toronto, Canada where she works as a professional musician.

She has performed in major roles in Bizet’s “Carmen” and Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” and works with Opera Victoria, The Orpheus Choir of Toronto, Toronto City Opera, The Canadian Tenors, and Brahm Goldhamer.

She has conducted choirs in London, Ontario and Toronto and enjoys teaching students in her Owlet Music studio.

“As a mother of two wonderful children, she pays tribute to the childhood she enjoyed nestled in the Helderberg Mountains and is thrilled to have an opportunity to give back to the community that gave her so much,” said a release announcing the event.
