BERNE — The Empire Orienteering Club has been conducting a summer orienteering sprint series across the Capital District and the next one will be held at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District’s track in Berne on Thursday, Aug. 22.

EAST BERNE — Lieutenant Commander Nathan Stempel of East Berne has been recalled to active duty from his Naval Reserve unit. He will be serving a nine-month deployment to Djibouti, Africa.

HILLTOWNS — Amanda (née Hellwig) Vallejos, lyric soprano and Berne-Knox-Westerlo alumna, will perform at the Octagon Barn in Knox today, Aug. 1.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Carey Institute for Global Good’s Helderberg Brewery has partnered with Discover Albany to offer an agritourism series called “Hilltowns Alive,” with several events slated through Columbus Day.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Rensselaerville Presbyterian Church continues its summer tradition of having clergy of different faiths deliver sermons on a common theme. The 2019 theme is “Finding Joy.”

WESTERLO — Veterans will now be able to access Albany County services once a week at the Westerlo Reformed Church.

EAST BERNE — James and Ruth Geier Roemer, a devoted couple, married for 75 years, both died last January. On May 18, their lives will be celebrated together.

KNOX — Javid Afzali has joined Bond Schoeneck & King as a senior counsel in the Albany office.

EAST BERNE — On  Friday, May 10, the Thompsons Lake Rural Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. at the Thompsons Lake Reformed Church in East Berne. In addition to the annual budget review, the 2018 season will be recapped.

BERNE — Jane Snyder, a licensed practical nurse who has been serving the Berne-Knox-Westerlo area for 45 years, is retiring.

“Jane has been a trusted, respected, and loved member of our practice and for the entire community, so we want to celebrate her,” said Dr. Kristin Mack in an email to The Enterprise.
