Orienteering club holds event at BKW track
BERNE — The Empire Orienteering Club has been conducting a summer orienteering sprint series across the Capital District and the next one will be held at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District’s track in Berne on Thursday, Aug. 22.
“This is a perfect opportunity to learn the sport of orienteering, which involves using a map and a compass to find control locations,” organizers said in an announcement of the event.
Instruction will begin at 5 p.m. and participants can start their courses any time between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Participants may choose to do a 1- or a 2.5-kilometer course and have an hour to complete the course.
The cost for participants is $5 per map. Current BKW students can come for free. For more information, email philht@gmail.com.
