Hilltowns Alive presents: Historic Rensselaerville Walking Tour

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Carey Institute for Global Good’s Helderberg Brewery has partnered with Discover Albany to offer an agritourism series called “Hilltowns Alive,” with several events slated through Columbus Day.

Gerritt Platel will lead a walking tour of Rensselaerville’s historic Main Street. Platel lives locally and works as a bartender at the brewery. Those taking the tour will see the ruins of the original Huyck Felt Mill, learn about the buildings and architecture that put the hamlet on the National Register of Historic Places, and take a tour of the Grist Mill.

The walk will end where it began at Helderberg Brewery taproom at 26 Route 353 in Rensselaerville. The cost is $5. The tour, starting at 2 p.m. on both June 22 and 23, will take an hour to an hour-and-a-half and cover about a mile. Walkers are urged two wear comfortable shoes.
