RENSSELAERVILLE — William Howard Moore lived most of his life in Medusa. His son, Dennison, called him “a man of the community.”

He created a museum to preserve Medusa’s history, wrote a column about the hamlet’s happenings, played the organ in its church, and served in its volunteer fire company.

As the season winds down toward sectional play, every game becomes critical. The Voorheesville Blackbirds and the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs both improved their standings this past week.

The Knox town supervisor said that he personally does not believe — despite the ruling of the Albany County Civil Service — that the town acted illegally when a town board majority voted to fire workers but he said he did not want to burden the taxpayers with the cost of a legal battle.

Incumbent Matthew Tedeschi, who is currently the board’s president, is seeking another three-year term. Helen Lounsbury has decided not to run again. The other three candidates — Robin Becker, Mackenzie Hempstead, and Rebecca Miller — are making their first run for school board. 

Memorial Service

MEDUSA — A memorial service will be held for William Howard Moore on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Medusa United Church of Christ on Route 351. After the service, the family will go to the Medusa Cemetery for a short burial service and then return to the house for food and refreshments.

Farm equipment was found — rusted and unused — when excavating the site where a Dollar General store is to be built in East Berne. 

At last week’s school board meeting, Superintendent Timothy Mundell said that bids were over the project budget’s target of $15.8 million.
