SCHOHARIE COUNTY — Barbara Wolford, a devoted mother who loved farm life, died on Tuesday, July 16, in her Knox Road home in the town of Wright, under the loving care of her son, daughter-in-law, and hospice after a long illness. She was 86.

Thank goodness the Old Men of the Mountain had some really nice weather when they went to Pop’s Place in Preston Hollow on July 9.

On a beautiful Saturday morning, over 70 members met for the Hilltown Seniors’ monthly meeting at the Hilltown Community Senior Access Center. 

The three elected assessors — who were all in favor of the change — will leave their posts at the end of the year, after which a single appointed person will serve as town assessor.

Children who take swimming lessons have an 88-percent reduction in risk of drowning, according to a study from the National Institute of Health. This new Hilltown program stresses water safety.

Until this year, the two alleged victims of Gerald Miller had been unable to take legal action against the former priest who gave sermons in Altamont and the Hilltowns. The passage of the Child Victims Act has allowed them to move forward with this, said their attorney.

WESTERLO — Ruth Christine Hannay of Westerlo, the founding librarian of the town’s library who was also very active in the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, died on Friday, July 5, 2019. She was 67.

Dennis “Den” Walter Flagler died on May 6, 2019 at the age of 71.
