BERNE — Around 3:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, a person driving on Route 156 in Berne saw a car stopped in the middle of the road, still running. Looking inside the Chevy Malibu, the passerby saw three people were unconscious and called 9-1-1, said Chief Deputy William Rice, of the Albany County Sheriff’s office.

MEDUSA – Charles Steele, an Army veteran, never stopped fighting.

“He was upset he was dying. He was concerned for his son,” said his sister, Joanne Steele. “He was a trouper.”

KNOX — Art Ogsbury was described by his wife as “Mr. Wonderful to the World.”

“I told him that all the time,” said Mae Ogsbury. “He was a proud man and a hard worker. He was a smiley man. His handshake was strong; that was his trademark.”

Amie Burnside said it was nerve-wracking being the only Republican on Westerlo’s town board, but then, two years ago, another Republican joined her. Now the GOP is running for the majority.

The Knox Democratic Committee has nominated Russ Pokorny for supervisor, incumbents Earl Barcomb and Dennis Barber for town board, and Joan Adriance for town clerk. Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis has said he will run for a third term.

The Old Men of the Mountain met on Tuesday, April 2 (this scribe’s birthday), at the Middleburgh Diner in Middleburgh.

The bats came alive for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo baseball team at the end of the game on Monday afternoon against the Mekeel Christian Academy Lions at home. The Bulldogs trailed, 3 to 0, after six-and-a-half innings but then rallied for a 4-to-3 win.

An opinion issued March 15 by the Albany County Department of Civil Service states that the two transfer-station workers who worked for the town for over five years should have been protected by the state’s Civil Service Law.

Westerlo Town Board, Rapp

Acting Supervisor William Bichteman, when asked who would take charge of the town during a planned absence, said that he had appointed former supervisor Richard Rapp and Councilman Joseph Boone as deputy supervisors.
