Thomas Spargo

At its reorganizational meeting on Jan. 1, the new town board of Berne removed several long-standing employees from their posts, stoking the ire of residents. Some of the board’s decisions are illegal, The Enterprise has learned.

It is becoming so redundant to report about Tuesday mornings being the time Mother Nature shakes out her bad weather for the day or week for those of us on the Hill.

Kindness was evident as well as enthusiasm on the dance floor Friday night. It was the fifth Hilltown Dance and its organizers are hoping more adults with disabilities will attend the monthly gathering.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Joel Willsey, Councilman Berne Town Board

Frank Edward Luksa

DELANSON — Frank Edward Luksa, a World War II veteran who was on the Allies’ lead ship for the invasion of Normandy, could fix anything broken, his family said.

He died peacefully at his daughter’s home in Altamont on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. He was 98.

Richard William Bradt

Richard William Bradt, a decorated Korean War veteran, was a devoted family man who served his church and community. He was also a gifted athlete who played semi-pro baseball.

He died on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, with his family at his side. He was 84.

The Berne Town Board ousted Emily Vincent, a Berne farmer, before she completed her term on the town’s planning board, breaking the law, to appoint Thomas Spargo as chairman. Vincent should be reinstated.

Thelma V. Watson

WESTERLO — Thelma Virginia Werner Watson of Westerlo took care of those she loved — she dropped out of high school to tend to her ill mother and raised her own children to abide by the Golden Rule.

She died on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. She was 98.
