This scribe is beginning to wonder how many times he can write where and when the Old Men of the Mountain meet. It has always been on Tuesday, but where varies, and also comes and goes.

On Dec. 4, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will honor East Berne resident M. Claire Ansbro-Ingalls as a woman of distinction for her work with Kenneth’s Army, an organization that fights against child abuse and other societal ills.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Carey Center for Global good is screening a documentary, “Joshua: Teenager vs Superpower,” about the work of Hong Kong native and youth activist Joshua Wong, who at age 14 led the largest and most successful protest in the period after the 1997 Hong Kong handover.

After its first appointee declined the position because he could not attend the required office hours, Westerlo has appointed Garth Slocum to replace Peter Hotaling as sole assessor.

The Rensselaerville Library’s new director, Heidemarie Carle, describes the opportunity to serve the Hilltowns community with the experience she’s built up over decades with non-profit and government organizations as “providential.”

Michael Vincent with turkey call, podcast

Michael Vincent talks turkey for our Thanksgiving podcast. Here, he sounds a turkey call he made himself. He shares memories of hunting all the way back to his boyhood on his grandparents’ farm on Pleasant Valley Road in Knox. There, he hunted on the land for food which they ate.

SCHOHARIE — Sonny Ochs is hosting a Phil Ochs Song Night on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Schoharie.

Peter Hotaling, who was Westerlo’s assessor for over 19 years before the town offered the position to others, has been hired as Rensselaerville’s sole assessor. 

The Country Café in Schoharie sits in the middle of the village. This restaurant shows signs of life and is decorated nicely for the season of Thanksgiving. 

Helderberg Senior Services, the lunch program for seniors, offers Tai Chi classes on Tuesdays. The class is free to those aged 60 and older.
