Kinship care is not new. As Gerard Wallace pointed out, George Washington, the father of our country, was also a grandfather, caring for two of his grandchildren without a legal arrangement. It is past time, in 250 years, for our laws and services to catch up with the reality that 1 in 11 Americans will live in a kinship home at some point in their childhood. If the people caring for these children get the support they need, our society as a whole will benefit.

Guilderland

Studies have been commissioned, committees convened, and reports filed, but getting the state to ultimately commit to the idea has stalled.

On Sunday, Feb. 1, Guilderland and Bethlehem indoor track teams battled in the Section 2, Division 1 championships at Hudson Valley Community College. Guilderland took home nine championships; the girls won their fourth straight title while the boys finished fifth.

The Rural Soil Background Study found results in New York similar to other Northeast states, with PFOS (Perfluorooctane Sulfonic Acid) detected in more than 97 percent of surface soil samples and PFOA (Perfluorooctanic Acid) detected in 76.5 percent.

The project has been awarded a total of $3,080,100 through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Base Hardship program; close to a million dollars of that amount is because of interest-free financing due to the hardship that was established.
