Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, June 24, 2016

Can you believe it is time for our annual ice cream social? Join us on Thursday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m., as we welcome summer and the On Your Mark, Get Set ... READ! summer reading program. Stewarts Shops will be generously donating ice cream and toppings so you can make your own sundae. Stop in to find out about all the fabulous programs the library has to offer for children, tweens, teens, and families. Activities and sports-themed demonstrations from experts are all part of this annual celebration. Bring the whole family.

SRP kick-off

Join us at the Performing Arts Center on June 27, for an invigorating and exciting evening of song and dance with nationally acclaimed children’s musician of PBS fame, Steve Roslonek of Steve Songs. He has been writing and performing his award-winning music for kids and families for the past 15 years. Anyone who’s attended a Steve Songs concert appreciates his ability to connect with his audience — from the exuberant children flocking toward the stage, to the moms bouncing babies with the beat, to the parents and grandparents singing along.

You won’t want to miss this one. This program is made possible with the generous support of The Friends of the Library and The Voorheesville PTA. The concert will be held at the Lydia C. Tobler Performing Arts Center at the Voorheesville High School/Middle School.

Toddler Yoga

Experience the benefits of yoga together in this nurturing class taught by local instructor, Janine Murphy. Yoga supports physical and emotional well-being and promotes fun and bonding. Bring a mat or a towel. This is a four session program, every Tuesday at 10:15 a.m., beginning June 29 and running through July 20. It is understood that things come up at the last minute, but you must commit to the four sessions since the next class builds upon the previous. Ages 2 to 5 with parent or caregiver, please register online.

Teen project

Teen power is needed to sew telemetry bags for the Cardiac Care Unit at Albany Medical Center. Join us on Wednesday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m. and you’ll be cutting and pinning material, then using the sewing machines to make simple pouches with straps. Participants will earn two hours of community service.  Students entering grades seven and up, please register.
