Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, May 13, 2016

Suryanarayana Chennapragada will be back at the Voorheesville Public Library on Tuesday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m., to teach us the importance of breath in calming the mind. Focusing on breathing calms the mind, relaxes the muscles, and relieves stress. Practitioners report a variety of benefits for mind, body and relationships. This program open to teens and adults. The workshop may be held outdoors (weather permitting). Please register.

Adult coloring club

Join us for our adult coloring book club at 6 p.m., on Wednesday. May 18. Each month we will provide different coloring sheets with multiple pages to choose from as well as a large selection of colored pencils, markers, and crayons. The library community room will provide a welcoming environment, with soothing music to help you relax and enjoy some you time.

Supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please register.

 Estate planning workshop

At 6 p.m., on Wednesday, May 25, the library will be hosting a financial planning informational workshop designed to help participants to better understand wills, trusts, estate planning, health proxies and power of attorney. Presented by volunteers from Retirement Solutions. Please Register.

Beginning beaded jewelry

On Thursday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m., you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Try adding some wire-looped links or dangles to your project. Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. This program is for adults and teens ages 14 and up.

Please register, and there will be a small materials fee.

High demand collection

Looking for the newest bestsellers or the book everyone is talking about?  Skip the long reserve lines. The library has a high demand collection. These titles check out for seven days with no renewals to move them quickly.

They cannot be requested, so they go right back on the shelf for you to find while browsing.  You can find them next to the new fiction with the purple seven day stickers.

Volunteer

Are you looking for a place to volunteer? The Friends of the Library are always looking for new members to help sort books, and staff the used book store Encore! for a few hours or fill a board position, such as: membership, fundraising, or volunteer coordinating. Donate as much or as little time as you like. For more information, contact Sherry Burgoon at .

Library schedule

The library has expanded hours. We are now open at 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. There are more changes to come, so stay tuned to this column or stop by the library and see for yourself.

Gallery and display

Our May artist of the month is Jerry Andritz. Jerry has traveled all over the world and his photographs are captivating.

Our display case this month is filled to the brim with sea shells, shared by collectors Judy Mysliborski and Paula Maniscalco. Both exhibits are not to be missed.
