Carrying high their hopes of playing deep into November for state championships, athletes from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo showed their opponents that they mean business on the court, in the pool, on the gridiron, and on the course.

On Friday late morning and early afternoon - Guilderland, Voorheesville, and BKW - cross country teams all vied for a chance to run in this Saturday's state competition down in Sunken Meadow State Park in the Section 2 championships at Saratoga State Park in Saratoga Springs.

The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs are winding down their regular seasons in cross-country and in golf. The runners went to Schoharie for a meet against Schoharie, Duanesburg, and Canajoharie-Fort Plain.

On Wednesday morning, high school and elementary students hopped off the big yellow buses to start a new school year at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. New to the school this year is a resource officer that will be on hand at both schools.

The winter season for the Bulldogs, Blackbirds, and Dutchmen was hot on the court, on the mat, on the track, and in the pool. Some teams made it all the way to the state competition and some showed heart and determination in efforts to get to states.

Last Sunday, the BKW indoor track team took part in the section 2, division 4 championships at the University at Albany to move onto the state qualifiers this Sunday

Wrestlers from the combined Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville team have had a tough season. Last Thursday, only five team members could compete against Fonda-Fultonville/Johnstown as the others sat out with injuries.
