VOORHEESVILLE — William J. Spence III, a master of the hammered dulcimer who helped revive the folk instrument in the 1970s, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, with his family at his side. He was 78.

NEW SCOTLAND — Nancy Worthley Thomas, longtime resident of New Scotland, loved books and had many close friends. She died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019. She was 71.

The latest turn in the Baron-Voorheesville lawsuit has both sides submitting notes and emails that they claim support their arguments.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds are in a good spot to defend their Section 2 title as the regular season winds down. On Friday evening at home, the Blackbirds did just that and a whole lot more. The Birds faced off against Watervliet — with a shortened bench — and won easily, 82 to 56.

The Storm — made up of Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Voorheesville players — took to the ice on Friday evening against Section 2’s Albany Academy at the Academies. The Storm could only muster 10 shots in the game and fell, 4 to 0.

For the Voorheesville girls volleyball team, the back to-back-sectional champions and 3rd in NYS was recognized by Albany County Executive Dan McCoy on Friday morning at Clayton A. Bouton high school during the executive's "Week of Champions" appreciation.

The Blackbirds are soaring again this year. The Voorheesville boys improved their record to 6 and 1 on Thursday when they beat the Bluehawks in Hudson. Voorheesville still has some of the core players from a team that has won back-to-back Class C/D regional titles.

The town board may decide to let dogs romp off-leash for two hours each morning in the Swift Road park.
