Michael Strauss, center, an aspiring Eagle Scout, is praised by Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy on Wednesday afternoon, while his parents, Judy and Bryan Strauss, at left, look on. They are standing in a train-viewing station that Strauss built, as his Eagle Scout service project, in Voorheesville near the trailhead for the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail. Train enthusiasts travel to the area to watch and photograph the passing locomotives on the tracks that are still in use. McCoy chose Sept. 11 for the unveiling, he said, because it’s the day President Barack Obama designated as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor those who died in the terrorist attacks.
