John Boyd Thacher State Park is receiving $1.35 million from the state to help update the park’s aged infrastructure.

As open space becomes scarce, municipalities are looking to their zoning code to help stem the tide of development.

NEW SCOTLAND — The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform a concert, “An Afternoon of Music,” at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church at 2010 New Scotland Road in Slingerlands on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. followed by a reception with light refreshments.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

On Saturday morning in the rain, parents and children gathered at New Salem Fire department for the annual Easter egg hunt.

The diamond was cold and windy last Thursday when the Voorheesville Blackbirds played a non-league game against Mohonasen at home. The Birds kept it close for four innings, being tied 1 to 1, but the Warriors flexed their muscles and downed the young Birds, 9 to 1.

VOORHEESVILLE — Janice Winters was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She grew vegetables that she canned for her family to eat. She sewed clothes for her children to wear. She even mowed the lawn of her family’s yard.

“Her kids were her life,” said her daughter, Heidi Gran.

This May, voters residing in the Voorheesville Central School District will decide on a $25.4 million school budget for next year.

New Scotland with a solar developer

NEW SCOTLAND — Capitalizing on the state’s recent changes and updates to its solar incentive programs, New Scotland has entered into an agreement with a solar developer that, if fully executed, will have the town collecting a monthly check for doing little more than signing the contract — and providing the land for a solar farm.

Despite concerns about a small pool of candidates, Voorheesville had 19 people apply to be the school district’s next superintendent.

The Voorheesville School and Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Marlene Windelspecht Prentiss Scholarship to be awarded to one or more graduating seniors from Clayton A. Bouton High School.
