Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers no longer with us, but for whom we’d give anything for just one last chance to say “I love you, Mom.” 

VOORHEESVILLE — The second public hearing on the proposed updates to Voorheesville’s zoning code, again, brought out representatives from Stewart’s, who offered a preview of what the company was prepared to do if changes to the zoning code were approved.

At the April 9 public hearing, Voorheesville Avenue residents whose land abuts 11 Drywall Lane voiced their concern that the potential rezone of the parcel would, in their view, have an adverse effect on all adjacent properties.

NEW SCOTLAND — Ivan Lawson, a longtime elementary-school teacher, was a patient and kind husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his family said. He died peacefully in his New Scotland home on Thursday, April 25, 2019, after a brief illness. He was 91.

To keep costs down, the way the Voorheesville Central School District pays for prescription drugs will have to change or there could be bigger problems in the future.

Voorheesville Elementary School students will be learning coding and programming skills, thanks to a grant secured by Alan Fiero, a long-time science teacher who became a teaching assistant in retirement.

John Boyd Thacher State Park is receiving $1.35 million from the state to help update the park’s aged infrastructure.

As open space becomes scarce, municipalities are looking to their zoning code to help stem the tide of development.

NEW SCOTLAND — The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform a concert, “An Afternoon of Music,” at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church at 2010 New Scotland Road in Slingerlands on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. followed by a reception with light refreshments.
