After several years of entering, Robert Price won first place in the chili contest on Jan. 25 at the annual day of sledding, hot dogs, chili, and neighbors in the Knox Town Park.

PHOTOS: Despite not having any heavyweight wrestlers the Berne-Knox-Westerlo team perseveres with some scrappy young fighters.

Westerlo is part of the the corner of Albany County that sits over the Marcellus Shale formation containing natural gas. The town council had rejected for revision its original report on hydrofracking.

Councilman Alfred Field voted against setting several salaries and wages, explaining that he does not feel Westerlo can afford raises along with surging insurance costs.

The town's boards met with their attorney to review the document outlining their standards of conduct as public servants.

Knox Supervisor Michael Hammond defended his practice of compiling his own schedule of business during meetings, saying he makes it available to the town clerk the day before and often gets requests and correspondence in a narrow space of time.

Appearing in Berne Town Court on Jan. 14, Mary Miesowicz and Harold Albright III faced much-reduced charges from their arrests for felony and misdemeanor offenses last March.

To the Editor:

I would like to comment on your Jan. 16, editorial “Good dialogue makes good neighbors.” The editorial speaks to the dispute between neighbors Ms. Barbara Huba and Mr. Michele Salerno.

Our January meeting lunch was nice hot chili; there’s nothing better for a cold winter day.

Another week is zooming by. The Polar Vortex weather is supposed to return this week; I guess before we know it, spring will be here.
