Berne-Knox-Westerlo is scheduled to benefit from tripled funding from the county for its programs for children facing economic, social, academic, or emotional issues.

These local students have been named to the president’s list at Hudson Valley Community College for the fall 2013 term, with a grade-point average between 3.5 and 4.0:

Maria Commisso of Altamont, in the diagnostic medical sonography academic program;

Among the appointments at the town's re-organizational meeting was the filling of Douglas Story's term on the water and sewer committee, which he gave up citing a conflict of interest with his position as the water and sewer treatment officer.

Brrrrr I just heard the weather forecast for the week and it sounds like a trip to the Berne Public Library is on my list.

Christmas is over. On Thursday, Dec. 26 I wrote my news and took it to Altamont. It had to be in early as the holiday falls in the middle of the week.

I picked up some Chinese food and ate with my daughter, Marcia Pangburn and Kyra and we watched family DVDs.

WESTERLO — The grassy shoulders of summer roads were shorn broadly and with pride when Roger Furman and his identical twin, Ralph, were on the mowers.

Mr. Furman lived in Westerlo his entire life and worked for the Albany County Department of Public Works, known in his youth as “the county.”

Dawn Jordan, who led the study of hydrofracking for the town, took her seat at the board table this month — a position she lost in the 2011 election.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, the Old Men of the Mountain met at Mrs. K’s Restaurant in Middleburgh for their traditional Christmas Party.

With few changes from November's elections, New Year's Day in Knox saw the town board reappoint current committee members and officials.
