BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Parent-Teacher Association will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Night on Monday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the secondary school library.  This is the night before the special vote, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

BERNE — On Jan. 12, Mackenzie Dunnells, who is 12, swallowed bleach from a bottle in her home in Berne; she wanted to die.

GUILDERLAND — Donald L. Filkins, a family man who served in the Navy and who helped build Interstate 88, died peacefully with his family by his side, at St. Peter’s Hospital on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. He was 81.

“He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,” said his wife, Beverly.

Five candidates vying for two vacant school board seats participated in Monday's forum, featuring literal round-table discussions on their hopes and dreams for the school district.

It is already Jan. 19, and a Tuesday when the Old Men of the Mountain braved the wind and single-digit temperatures to meet at the Hilltown Café in Rensselaerville.
