ALTAMONT — St. Lucy/St. Bernadette Church in Altamont is sponsoring a tour to the imperial cities of central Europe: Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. The trip, which will run from April 16 to 26, 2018, with travel expert Jean Gagnon, will include transportation from Albany to New York City.

A second vote was taken at Knox’s town board meeting Tuesday night on establishing a second business district in the town. As at the July meeting, the vote failed with a tie of 2 to 2.

Tuesday was the first of August and, as we said before, the summer goes so fast, and winter takes forever — except, of course, for the ski enthusiasts.

A Greenville man crashed his car in Westerlo early Wednesday morning, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

In order for a cable company to qualify for a grant to fund expanding its internet service in Westerlo, the town must go through a multi-step process to approve a contract before Aug. 15. But last week at a board meeting, town officials were wary of being locked into a contract.

In reviewing the proposed capital project to upgrade the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Elementary School, the board of education considered tacking on an extra cost to upgrade technology in the secondary school.

The draft of a shared-services plan for Albany County includes a recommendation to consolidate the town of Berne’s highway department with the county’s Department of Public Works.

KNOX — Liam Hanley, a Boy Scout in Troop 1079, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, he built and installed three Take-A-Book, Leave-A-Book Libraries — one for each of the towns of Berne, Knox, and Westerlo. The libraries are located at each of the town halls.
