On Tuesday, March 28, (thank goodness this month is almost to the end) the Old Men of the Mountain met at the Hilltown Café in Rensselaerville.

BERNE — Richard Earle Spensley was a musician, reader, survivor, and a caring father and grandfather. He died on Monday, March 27, 2017, in Florida, where he lived. He was 76.

“He was a really great man,” said his daughter, DiDi Spears. “With a good sense of humor and a good soul.”

EAST BERNE — A daytime burglary at a home in East Berne may have been due to its seclusion.

Tradition. It’s a good, solid word.

WESTERLO — Gary William Maslowsky “entered his eternal home on Friday, March 24, 2017, with his loving wife and daughters by his side,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 70.

KNOX — Delia “Barney” Palombo was a well-known presence at the Township Tavern in Knox, and later made her place in Knox’s town government. She was also a loving and caring person to her friends, family, community, and animals. She died on Monday, March 27, 2017. She was 94.

Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis continues to push for additional business districts in Knox as the board deals with the logistics of mapping out the three proposed districts and informing neighbors. Lefkaditis questioned the validity of the planning board’s recommendation against a new business district, calling members “a bunch of appointees.”

Planning chairman Robert Price says the current Knox garage is structurally sound and can be upgraded for $62,000 while building a new garage would be costly.

The first night of dress rehearsals for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Theatre Troupe’s production of “The Music Man,” saw a flurry of preparation both onstage and off. The show opens Friday night.

Tuesday, March 21, was a much better Tuesday than March 14.
