The United States Fish and Wildlife Service announced a proposal on March 22 to reclassify the northern long-eared bat as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

“The role of government is getting things done,” said Bethlehem Supervisor David VanLuven, crediting the town, county, state, and federal governments for working together to get the Power Plug project underway “from concept to concrete in five months.”

BETHLEHEM — A town worker at the Bethlehem Water Department stole $63,481.19 worth of copper and brass materials from an inventory room, according to a release from the Bethlehem Police.

Matthew J. Stipe, 32, of Delmar, was charged on Jan. 11with second-degree grand larceny, a felony.

“This is the first case in Albany County and Capital Region history to use investigative genetic genealogy,” said Commander Adam Hornick. The modern technology was used to identify the remains of a man who had died in Bethlehem in 1981.
