Berne-Knox-Westerlo

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of those who braved the weather on Saturday and came to the reception at the Berne Town Hall to wish me well on my upcoming retirement from my position of Berne town clerk.

The Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls' basketball team has less experience this year, but battled hard enough to win a tense overtime game by a single point on the road.

Carlene Willsie, the daughter of Ross and Kathryn Willsie of East Berne, and Ethan Searl, the son of Duncan and Laurel Searl of West Berne were married on Sept. 19, 2013.

The ceremony was held at Mercury Hall in Austin, Texas and was officiated by Meghan McGonagle, a close friend of the couple.

To the Editor:

Berne Town Clerk Patricia Favreau is retiring after 34 years of dedicated service.

An open house will be held on Dec. 14, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Berne Town Hall for all the residents who wish to stop in to wish Pat well and thank her for all she has contributed to the town of Berne.

KNOX — Willard “Skip” B. Hellwig, a man of few words who loved woodworking and electricity, died on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Albany Medical Center, following a sudden illness. He was 70.

Mr. Hellwig was born on Nov. 24, 1943, in Albany, the son of Willard B. and Ella Marjorie (née Kelley) Hellwig, Sr.

To the Editor:

This is in response to Anita Marrone’s letter that appeared in The Enterprise on Nov.21.

The Hilltowns Seniors Thanksgiving dinner was a smashed potatoes hit.

On Monday, Nov. 18, I wrote my news for The Enterprise and took it to Altamont. My daughter, Kathy, came and spent the afternoon with me.

In the evening, at 5 p.m., I went to the NEAT Dinner at the Berne Reformed Church. NEAT stands for Not Eating Alone Tonight. There were lots of people there.

Monday was Veteran’s Day. Brandon had the day off but he didn’t have Samson and Nichole, as it was Veronica’s turn for a Federal holiday.

I went up to Danielle’s and held Zoey for an hour and it gave her time to get a casserole in the oven for dinner.

I ate with Brandon, Jenn and Iain as they asked me first.

After 10 years with Andy Wright at the helm, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo varsity basketball coaching post has been filled by an unknown face.
