Book discussion
On Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. join us for “The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry” by Gabrielle Zevin presented by Diane Stewart. This book is about a middle-aged man who owns a failing independent bookstore on Alice Island off the coast of Massachusetts. Depressed for the past two years following the death of his wife, Fikry is lonesome, angry and a bit of a literary snob. He doesn’t just stock any old book in Island Books, where “No Man Is an Island; Every Book Is a World.” Only those titles that satisfy his old-fashioned tastes are allowed in.
Concert
On Aug. 24 come and enjoy "Runa." Quickly gaining recognition as one of Irish music’s new “super-groups,” RUNA has been enchanting audiences by pushing the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats since their formation in 2008. Interweaving the haunting melodies and exuberant tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and blues, they offer a thrilling and redefining take on traditional music.
The group has been honored internationally, winning Top Group and Top Traditional Group in the Irish Music Awards and four Independent Music Awards including Best Live Album, Best World/Traditional Song and Best Bluegrass Song.

Enjoy the noise
On Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. come make some noise! Using different types of hand-drums (congas, bongos, African djembes, doumbeks) as well as bells, shakers, gongs, and many other odd instruments, participants will learn rhythm basics by playing musical games and engaging in various sound-making activities. The hands-on activities will be interspersed with show-and-tell sessions demonstrating instruments from around the world. This program is ideal for students who are just beginning to get interested in music, those who would like to improve their abilities on the instrument they’re currently studying, or for those who simply enjoy making a lot of noise! David Roth concert
On July 29, at 4 p.m., David Roth will perform. He strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious, and powerful singing and subject matter.
As singer, songwriter, recording artist, keynote speaker, workshop leader, and instructor, David has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries full-time for three decades.

On July 23 join us for a Family Sing-Along Movie Party with "Moana" rated G. Here's your chance to burst into song in the library! Then on July 24, at 10:45 a.m. get ready to move in this interactive storytime designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration required.
On July 24 and 26 at 1 p.m. come join the fun in creating a one-of-a-kind journal for personal use or as a very special gift. In this two-part class you will learn to make a handmade journal/scrapbook/sketchbook. You will be creating the cover papers using several surface treated paper techniques. The pages will be bound using the Japanese Stab binding method. The pages and covers will be embellished using various materials such as stickers, beads and decorative punches and papers. Registration required. This program is for kids going into grade six and up.
Also on July 24, 25, and 26 at 4 p.m. join us for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Immersion Camp. We are partnering with Signum University to offer our first fantasy immersion camp as we read and study “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone” by J. K. Rowling. If you've already read the book — great. If you haven't grab yourself a copy! You'll read the book at home and participant in interactive discussions about what you've read online with professors from the University. We'll meet three times a week and talk about the book and participate in some fun, creative activities. This will be a great way to delve deeper into one of our favorite fantasy novels. This program is for kids going into grade five through eight. Registration is required.
July 25, at 1 p.m. come be part of Terrific Turtles, join the Children's Museum of Science and Technology and meet a turtle from CMOST’s living collection. Learn about turtle habitats and make an art project to take home. This program is for kids going into kindergarten through second grade. Registration is required.
On July 25 at 2:30 p.m. the library presents Rocks Rock with the help of educators from the Children's Museum of Science and Technology, children will learn about rock classification (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) in the context of the rock cycle. They will have the opportunity to handle rock samples and learn how these rocks are used. For added fun, each child will receive a geode to keep and break open at home. Students use real scientific tests to identify rocks. This program is part of our Libraries Rock! Summer Reading Program and is for kids going into grades three through five. Registration is required.

Friendly ladies (men are welcome, but we haven’t seen any yet!) knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more on thursdays at the library. Come on June 21 at 7 p.m.

Summer reading program
From June 23 to 30 come register for "Libraries Rock" the Summer Reading Program. Registration will be held in the Community Room. Be sure to sign your child up for some great and fun programs.
