Guilderland Cyclones will storm to state championship in March

Two members of the Guilderland Y Cyclones swim team have qualified to move on to the YMCA Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina in April.

Whiteman has three new associates

Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP has announced three new associates: Michael J. Alexander, Catherine D. Kemp, and Wale A. Salis. All of them were previously summer associates with the firm.

 

Alexander received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Carey Institute hosts hiring fair

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Carey Institute will host a hiring fair at its campus located at 63 Huyck Road in Rensselaerville on Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Town seeks input on pathways plan

GUILDERLAND — The first of two public meetings will be held on Monday, March 2, for Guilderland residents to share their thoughts on trails and open space in town.

The town, working with the University at Albany’s Master of Regional Planning program, is developing a comprehensive pathway project.

Gallupville House now has a website

WRIGHT — The Gallupville House Association has launched a website that went live on Feb. 21.

Speaking for the association, Chris Claus in a release praised the site as “a work of art, volunteerism and community. And that’s the Gallupville House, in a nutshell.”

Elliott House Thrift Shop to open March 18

The Elliott House Thrift Shop on Route 81 in Norton Hill will be open for the 2020 season beginning Wednesday, March 18, weather permitting; it will close if the weather is inclement.

The hours at the Thrift Shop are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday,  and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.  

Thacher Park visits up 13 percent

New York’s state parks, historic sites, campgrounds, and trails hosted a record-breaking 77.1 million visits in 2019, according to a release from the governor’s office. Locally, visits to John Boyd Thacher State Park in the Helderbergs was up 13 percent.

Albany County farmers hurt by April 1 rains eligible for aid

GUILDERLAND — Sarah and Guy Bucey, a husband-and-wife team, have been promoted to leadership roles at Inova, located in the Northeastern Industrial Park in Guilderland Center. Founded in 2001, Inova manufactures multifunctional, space-saving furniture like modern Murphy beds that pull down from vertical storage.
