A new way of finding out about events and activities at an old gathering place for the community, the Gallupville House, is through its website: www.gallupvillehouse.org.

WRIGHT — The Gallupville House Association has launched a website that went live on Feb. 21.

Speaking for the association, Chris Claus in a release praised the site as “a work of art, volunteerism and community. And that’s the Gallupville House, in a nutshell.”

The historic house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is in the center of the town of Write and, over the years, had served as both a hotel and a Grange Hall.

Founded for the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration, the association was intended to be the independent arm of a two-part effort to save, improve, and maintain the Gallupville House.

“The group has had periods of great enthusiasm but has also had some very quiet years,” Claus said. “Many original members have passed on but, happily, there’s still great spirit.”

The website was designed and created by Greg Miller, a lecturer in the Graphic Design Technology Program at SUNY Cobleskill, and Heidi Florussen, both residents of Wright and members of the Gallupville House Association.

“Wright and Gallupville have really weak presence on the internet,” Miller says. “This effort is a significant step to correct that deficiency.”

Florussen notes, “We’re raising our children here and we put a high value on the concept of community. Plus, can you imagine acting lessons in Gallupville? Irish Dance? Music? Art? Food? I mean, come on, this is fantastic.”

The first Gallupville House event of the year is a Family Contra Dance on March 14. All are welcome and details can be found on the website.
