David Hoffman has been appointed the associate dean for academic initiatives at Maria College in Albany. Hoffman, who holds a doctorate in bioethics with a concentration in health ethics and policy from Albany Medical College, will also continue in his role as associate professor for ethics and health policy at Maria.

One example of an offering at Ritual 518, from the shop’s menu, is the Buddha Bowl, featuring wild black rice, fresh greens, tomato, cucumber, fresh avocado rolled in hemp hearts and cacao, roasted sweet potatoes, homemade hummus, roasted red peppers, slivered almonds, and a lemon wedge. 

BERNE — Jared Lasselle, 16, of East Berne, has achieved the highest rank offered by the Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Altamont Reformed Church and is a junior at Guilderland High School.

GUILDERLAND — Kanyalakshmi “Kanya” Ayyanar, M.D., a pediatric neuro-oncologist, has joined Albany Med’s Department of Pediatrics, as the director of the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital.

Robert T. Schofield has been appointed as co-managing partner of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP and William S. Nolan has been added as a member of the firm’s executive committee, effective Jan. 1, 2020.

The 40-year-old firm has 75 lawyers.

These members of the New York State State Army National Guard have re-enlisted:

— Sergeant Bridget Burch from Voorheesville re-enlisted to continue service with the 0206 Military Police Company; and

— Staff Sergeant Michael Downs from Delmar re-enlisted to continue service with the Company D, 3-142nd Aviation.

The Arbor Day Foundation is offering free trees to new members who join any time during January.

Two Fox Farm

The Capital District Farm to Fork Local Food Expo was held Wednesday at Guilderland High School. About 40 buyers were on hand to taste local products at the free event.

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have recently been promoted:

— Jeffrey Jensen from Altamont, assigned to the 206th Military Police Company, received a promotion to the rank of private; and

For years, Alice Corcoran would not only open her Guilderland home to classes of young students that would visit from nearby Lynnwood Elementary School, but she would also give every student a teddy bear she knitted herself.
