BERNE — Jared Lasselle, 16, of East Berne, has achieved the highest rank offered by the Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Altamont Reformed Church and is a junior at Guilderland High School.

Jared is the third Eagle Scout in his family, following brothers David and Jonathan who also earned the rank with Troop 264.

Jared was recognized in a court of honor ceremony on Jan. 12 at the American Legion Post 977 in Altamont. The Legion was the recipient of Jared’s Eagle Scout project — a stone patio with two benches and a table to enhance the fire-pit area where flag-retirement ceremonies are held.

Jared has served as Troop 264’s historian and webmaster, and currently serves as the Senior Patrol Leader.

In addition to the Eagle rank, he has earned nine eagle palms to represent 45 merit badges earned above those required for rank and currently carries 68 badges on his sash.

Additionally, he has completed many hours of community service, hiked 150 miles, and spent 125 nights camping. He is also an active member of the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout of America honor society.

In his acceptance speech, Jared thanked his parents; his fellow Scouts; his scoutmaster, Doug Stang; and his friends for their support and encouragement.
