Their cheers were loud during Saturday’s competition at Colonie High. The Dutch had won its fourth straight Section 2 title. The champions had a score of 86.05 out of 100 points. The team is coached by Jessalynn Crusado.

The next step for each of the athletes on the Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo indoor track teams is to compete in this Sunday’s state qualifiers for a chance to head to the state competition on March 2 on Long Island.

The Guilderland-Voorheesville boys’ swim team, in the Section 2 championships at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park on Friday and Saturday, looked to lock down more qualifications for the March 1 and 2 state competition.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo basketball fans packed the gym in Berne for a thrilling ride this past weekend as the Bulldogs battled to try to win Class C titles. On Friday, the boys, seeded 15th, suffered a close loss, 54 to 52, against Rensselaer, the 18th seed.

Nine Guilderland and one Berne-Knox-Westerlo wrestlers were among the best in Section 2, hoping to win on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center so they could go on to state competition. None succeeded. Guilderland finished 22nd with 67 points and BKW didn’t score.

Two Guilderland gymnasts — Allison Rem, middle left, and Rachel Drislane, middle right, are on their way to state competition, March 3 at Cold Springs Harbor High School on Long Island.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds are in a good spot to defend their Section 2 title as the regular season winds down. On Friday evening at home, the Blackbirds did just that and a whole lot more. The Birds faced off against Watervliet — with a shortened bench — and won easily, 82 to 56.

The Guilderland Dutchmen wrestlers took to the mat on Saturday at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park for the Section 2, Division 1, Class A championships. The Dutch finished sixth with 124.5 points.

The Storm — made up of Guilderland, Mohonasen, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Voorheesville players — took to the ice on Friday evening against Section 2’s Albany Academy at the Academies. The Storm could only muster 10 shots in the game and fell, 4 to 0.

Three-time defending Section 2 champions, the Guilderland co-ed cheer team took to the mat in the annual UAlbany Cheer Showdown on Sunday afternoon. The Dutch cheered the day before in Saratoga where they finished second.
