Nine Guilderland and one Berne-Knox-Westerlo wrestlers were among the best in Section 2, hoping to win on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center so they could go on to state competition. None succeeded. Guilderland finished 22nd with 67 points and BKW didn’t score.

Dominating: Guilderland’s Marcus Berroa battled Columbia’s Charlie Underwood for the third time in a week in the first round of the Division 1, 126-pound weight class. Berroa exacted some revenge by winning, 16 to 4, but fell in the next round; he came back to finish fifth by beating Columbia’s Jacob Slovak in a barnburner 16-to-13 match.

Face smash: Guilderland’s Cameron Durant feels South Glens Falls’ Brian Hockford’s hand pushing his nose as Durant attempts to pin Hockford in the first period in the quarterfinal match in the Division 1, 182-pound weight class. Durant did pin Hockford 1:41 into the first period but fell in the semifinals; he was able to place sixth after losing to Hockford, this time by pin at 3:45.

Dragging his opponent back: Guilderland’s Austin Grant holds the leg of Ballston Spa’s Peter Hansen in the quarterfinal match in the Division 1, 170-pound weight class. Grant won easily, 12 to 4, and moved all the way to the finals but fell to Burnt Hills’ Jakai Townsend, 8 to 5, and now waits to see if he gets a wildcard for the Feb. 22-23 state competition.
