The owners of a recently approved snack bar in Knox hope to make use of the influx of visitors at John Boyd Thacher State Park.

Michael Merwin, a 22-year veteran of the Navy, recently had his beef-jerky company certified as a service-disabled veteran-owned business.

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have been promoted:

— Tyler Center from Slingerlands, assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters, who received a promotion to the rank of Sergeant; and

Discovery Workshops were presented at Town Hall by the Knox Youth Council and the Knox Town Board this past weekend.

ALBANY COUNTY — The county’s Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting spring plant and fish sales.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Central School District will hold its bi-annual Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Farnsworth Middle School at 6072 State Farm Rd.

The Delmar Farmers’ Market will prohibit the use of plastic bags by vendors for the May 5 kickoff of its 10th season.

VOORHEESVILLE — Having raised close to a quarter-million dollars, the Voorheesville Playground committee is now looking to the community to raise a playground at Voorheesville Elementary School.

GUILDERLAND — Astral Journeys Center, a new business at 1811 Western Ave. in Guilderland, is owned by Christine Seebold, who has been a medium, she says, since she was 2.
