Residential brush burning is prohibited in New York State from March 16 through May 14.

Even though much of the state is currently blanketed in snow, warming temperatures can quickly cause wildfire conditions to arise, according to a release  from the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.

More than 1,000 pieces of artwork created by students from 15 Capital Region school districts will be on view on the Empire State Plaza Concourse through March 18.

BERNE — Jacqueline “Jackie’ O’Keefe, a Berne resident, became the Command Chief Warrant Officer for the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Her commander handed her a sword used by her son, Bradley, to symbolize her assumption of power.
