On June 4, the Rennselaerville Historic District Association held its Founders Day to give out awards to deserving people in the village.

Rafael A. Nieves Sr. of Guilderland, whose son was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2011, addresses the crowd that gathered at Town Hall Wednesday for a ceremony to mark the naming of a section of East Lydius Street where he lives after his son.

James Hockenbury — who police say worked in child care for 30 years — was arrested by Guilderland Police on April 19 and charged with a first-degree criminal sexual act, a felony.

A woman, who police say was intoxicated, falls to the bottom of a 60-foot cliff. A man, enjoying an outing with friends, slips off the top of  a dam, down a steep spillway  coated with mud and debris, and lands on rocks below the spillway,  a fall of 35 feet. Both survive. Both are rescued. But their salvation required rescuers trained in the art of “rope rescue.”

GUILDERLAND — The weather may already be very summery, but it will be a few more weeks before town residents can cool off in the pool at Tawasentha Park.
